2016 Trends for Events Management

How to make every event one to remember

The realm of event planning is a rather exciting one. Don’t get us wrong, we admire corporate jobs, but we love the idea of harnessing our inner socialite to make a living. Withevent management training courses and a host of this year’s top event trends, your event-co-ordination couldn’t be easier or more enjoyable! Aspiring event planners listen up... here are 2016’s top event trends!

Interesting venues

Gone are the days of stuffy banquet rooms with floor-to-ceiling drapery. Yes, our mothers are probably gasping for air at the mere thought, but it’s the honest truth. New age venues are offering a more modern take on event spaces for a shabby-chic combination of concrete, raw woods and minimal fuss. Venues like aeroplane hangars, art museums and Bedouin stretch tents are taking over. Our favourite? Transparent marquees that let you see the moon and stars on a clear night!

Fun food

In 2016, food will hardly ever be determined by the theme of your event. In fact, food will be selected by taste appeal and ease of eating. Think interesting flavour combinations like the best of salty and sweet. An example of this that’s pretty popular right now is caramel and bacon. Don’t believe us? Feast your eyes on these salted caramel and bacon brownies!

Sensory appeal

A successful event in 2016 will be the one that appeals to all of the senses. Through sight, sound, taste, smell and even - through the use of cleverly integrated technologies like apps and sites - you could throw the event of the year! It’s all about selecting elements that play well together, so ensure that your chosen aspects enhance one other.

Colouring-in

The colour palette for 2016 is rather interesting! On the one side of the spectrum are neutrals paired with a metallic-like rose gold, or a bold print or pattern. This is being referred to as neutral with a bit of edge. On the other, the calming palette of Rose Quartz and Serenity (the two pantones of the year) is a great choice for day-time events.

Plan your future

Event trend forecasting means little if you don’t have the qualification to back it up. An IIE Higher Certificate in Event Management from Varsity College could be a ticket to the career of your dreams. For more about this accredited qualification, visit our website www.varsitycollege.co.za.
