VC cares
Under the guidance of the Student Wellness Manager (SWM), the VC Cares Committee gives members the opportunity to lead fellow students in a range of initiatives that include fundraising, awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes.
The VC Cares committee are passionate, caring and dedicated to making a difference in the world around them. This is truly rewarding work that helps students grow as individuals and become socially aware citizens, empowering themselves and those they help. Professionally, students gain valuable practical experience by becoming involved in projects such as Mandela Day, wellness days and Habitat for Humanity’s Youth Build. All these initiatives provide students with a variety of opportunities, allowing them to make a difference in the lives of others.
The community work conducted by the VC Cares committee provides an authentic and impactful learning experience and contributes immeasurably to the personal development of those students who take the time to get involved. These opportunities are crucial in allowing us to provide the full student experience that makes The IIE’s Varsity College unique, and ultimately contributes to the holistic development of our students. The IIE’s Varsity College and the KHUMO Project The IIE’s Varsity College has embarked on various projects that utilise the time, talents, and skills of its people, who are passionate about ensuring sustainable development and making a meaningful impact in local communities.
KHUMO stands for Kid Heroes Under the Mentorship of Others, it also means “wealth” in Setswana. This is a fitting name considering the project’s objective is to share The IIE’s Varsity College wealth of knowledge, skills, and resources to contribute towards educating and mentoring young minds. The KHUMO project partners with local community schools and collaborates with them to strengthen, support, and transform disadvantaged schools by addressing the needs identified by the specific school. The project has brought together students, staff, and the expertise of lecturers. All efforts conducted ensure sustainable growth and development, such as installing JoJo tanks, building sustainable vegetable gardens, reading to the children in honour or world book day.
