2018’s Jobs with the highest increases

Money can’t buy you happiness, but you certainly need it to pay the bills. If you’re looking to take up a career that helps you do just that and then some, you might want to turn your attention to professions that usually get promising increases. According to Adzuna, an online job search platform, salaries over the last year have risen by around 7%. Those interested in IT professions and BCom degree jobs are certainly smiling as they are just some of the titles that have enjoyed a raise. Which profession enjoyed the highest increase in 2018? Keep reading to find out.

For starters, those with BCom degree jobs like marketing and finance were said to have received an increase of around 5%. This could be attributed to the fact that tough economic times don’t leave much room or funding for raises. Although it is worth noting that 5% is still something and we bet that there are several careers who didn’t get an increase at all. With the business sector set to recover this year, this is all the more reason to strengthen those business management and strategic management skills if you want to get ahead and enjoy a greater increase.

Those in admin, sales and engineering enjoyed an increase of between 5 and 10%. Civil engineering jobs are amongst the highest paying jobs in the country but as it turns out, these kinds of positions are hard to come by. Adzuna’s study shows that only 600 civil engineering positions were advertised in 2018. This makes for a rather scary reality for young people studying engineering. With increased competition for limited positions, candidates should have another similar career path in mind, just in case.

Who took home the greatest increase of 2018? This was secured by none other than Information Technology (IT) professionals. Salaries in this industry were said to increase by an average of 10% this last year, with some fetching even more than that. Web developers, in particular, enjoyed an eyebrow-raising 15% pay rise, the biggest in the nation. According to Adzuna, the number of career opportunities in this sector is continually on the rise. This is directly related to the need for effective IT solutions in a world that is being dominated by digital.
