6th Annual Inspired Teachers Conference to be hosted by Varsity College

Varsity College is proud to be the host of the sixth annual Inspired Teachers Conference to be held on the Sandton campus on the 18th of August from 08:00 until 16:30.

The Inspired Teachers Conference provides a unique forum for educators and thought leaders from a variety of disciplines who are open to dynamic conversation. The conference also serves as a platform to recognise and learn from the teachers renowned for their ability to light up a classroom. Themes that will be discussed during the conference include: why teaching and leadership is interlinked, the best new ideas for engaging students, critical thinking – how to harness and teach the ability to think clearly and rationally, as well as the value of mindfulness.

Says Kevin Johnson, National Stakeholder Manager at Varsity College, “Varsity College is proud of its involvement with the Inspired Teachers Conference as it aligned to what we look to achieve in education. We aim to inspire students to achieve their true potential and make a significant contribution in the world of education the best way we can. This conference provides Varsity College the unique opportunity to share knowledge with likeminded educators and to unveil the new IIE B.Ed in Foundation Phase Teaching degree, which physically illustrates our vision and commitment to education.”

This year attendees can look forward to speakers such as: Dr Christopher Emdin who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology at the Teachers College, Columbia University. He is also a public intellectual and science advocate who holds a Ph.D. in Urban Education with a concentration in Mathematics, Science and Technology. Chair of Alpha Media Holdings based in Zimbabwe, Trevor Ncube who holds a BA Honours (First Class) from the University of Zimbabwe and has completed various leadership programmes over the years. Ruda Landman who gained prominence as the co-anchor of M-Net’s Carte Blanche, a position she held for 19 years until 2007 will deliver a talk titled: “In One Generation”.

Dr Taddy Blecher, Colin Northmore, Morag Rees, Ariellan Rosenberg, Ruth Everson and Debby Edelstein will also speak at the conference.

The Inspired Teachers Conference was launched by Quality Life Company in March 2012 in a drive to share leadership lessons and inspiration with the teaching community.
