What is a Bachelor of Arts Degree?

This is an undergraduate degree that is rather broad in scope. This will allow you to work in several areas once you have graduated. With a BA degree, you’ll need to choose a specialisation or area of interest. At The IIE’s Varsity College, the IIE Bachelor Of Arts Core Disciplines (Specialisations) include:

How long will it take me to get my BA?

The IIE Bachelor of Arts degree is offered via full-time and part-time distance (online). What you select will depend on your schedule and existing commitments. If you decide to study this programme full-time, you are in for a minimum of three years. On the part-time distance (online) side of things, you will take a minimum of four years. Part-time will allow you to work and study at the same time, which could prove beneficial for some.

What subjects do you need to study a BA degree?

To pursue this programme, you’ll need a National Senior Certificate (a matric) with a Bachelors pass or matric exemption. This will allow you to meet the entrance criteria to study this degree.

Which BA Core Discipline (Major) should I choose?

The short answer is: that’s up to you. All of IIE BA Core Disciplines are worthwhile choices but you need to look at which avenue you’d like to venture down. For those who want to do something with writing and language, English and Communications would be the ideal choice. This is because it encompasses everything you would need to make a career for yourself in fields that use these disciplines. Those who might want to go into counselling or become psychologists would of course consider Psychology and Communications. The combination you select must suit your interests and future goals.
