Head of Sport Carole Adam, Appointed Chef de Mission of Team South Africa for the 2025 World University Games in Germany.

Carole Adam (Head of Sport The IIE’s Varsity College, IIE MSA and IIE Vega School) has been appointed Chef de Mission of Team South Africa for the 2025 World University Games (WUG) Rhine-Rhur, Germany.

Carole, who played a fundamental role in the establishment of sport at The IIE’s Varsity College and who has been heading the portfolio up for 17 years, is not new to the WUG. She was Deputy Chef de Mission of Team South Africa for the 2023 WUG Chengdu and was Team Manager for Water Polo and for Swimming for the WUGs Taipei (2017) and Napoli (2019) respectively.

Team South Africa will participate in 8 sporting codes at the 2025 WUG. Carole will act as Team leader and as Head of the Team South Africa delegation. Her overall responsibilities include oversight of team selection, preparation and the successful delivery of Team SA during the games.

Says Carole: “It is an absolute honour to be appointed Chef de Mission for the 2025 WUG in Germany. The WUG is the pinnacle of competition for university students globally and is an extremely special experience for our students. The WUG gives one a taste of what the Olympics would be like in terms of comradery, electrifying competition and cultural experiences.

The venues for each sport are located across several different cities which makes it even more exciting. As a result of University Sport South Africa (USSA) identifying 8 different sports for Germany, our elite student athletes will have ample opportunity to be selected for the 2025 WUG. My team and I are up for the challenge, and we intend making our universities, USSA and South Africa proud and, hopefully, bring home lots of medals.”

Carole is also the 1st Vice President of USSA. USSA was founded within the tertiary education sector and part of the organization’s main aims and objectives is to facilitate and influence the development of sport by promoting mass bona fide student participation through USSA tournaments. In addition to the promotion of high performance for elite performers through the participation at international competitions, in consultation with SASCOC and other applicable national federations. Carole’s main role as 1st Vice President includes overseeing all statutory and governance matters. She is currently leading a constitutional review of all USSA’s governance documents.

Said Louise Wiseman (Managing Director The IIE’s Varsity College, IIE MSA and IIE Vega School): “On behalf of The IIE’s Varsity College, IIE MSA and IIE Vega School, I extend our congratulations to Carole in her professional capacity as she leads out this amazing appointment as Chef de Mission. To each of the Team South Africa members, I wish them much success in their training for the World University Games, and hope that they each thrive in the overall experience of this international university sport event.”
