Professor Jonathan Jansen addresses Principals in KZN
Over one hundred High School Principals networked at the 10th annual Varsity College Principals’ Institute in Kwazulu-Natal, held recently at Varsity College Westville. The aim of the Institute is for school leaders to network, sharing leadership best practice in the attempt to collectively elevate education in the region.
Attendees were fortunate to be addressed by Professor Jonathan Jansen, Vice-Chancellor and Rector of the University of the Free State and President of the South African Institute of Race Relations.
Odette Francesconi, Managing Director of Varsity College, said: “The Principals’ Institute is hosted at our campuses nationally. The aim of the event is to provide school principals and senior management the opportunity to take time out of their busy schedules to be motivated and inspired. By networking with colleagues we can cultivate solutions to common challenges and develop self and future leadership within schools. This ensures that we continue to grow and thrive into the future.”
Professor Jansen holds Honorary Doctorate of Education degrees from the University of Edinburgh and Cleveland State University. He is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and the Academy of Science for the Developing World. Professor Jansen is a prominent author and speaker on educational matters around the world.
“Professor Jansen is such a dynamic and inspiring individual” said Yenusha Ramluggan, Academic Development Coordinator at Varsity College Westville, “He challenges you to confront issues you may shy away from and his message regarding a Principal’s role in developing the youth of today through their leadership strategies was clear and significant.”
Through this forum Varsity College strives to solidify relationships between school and tertiary practitioners and work together to holistically develop both learners and students.
