Description of your duties on a daily basis:

On a daily basis I ensure that the Google Digital Skills Programme is running smoothly and reporting any problems that occur so that they can be resolved. I also ensure that the trainers involved in the programme are working effectively. Additionally, I answer all queries about the programme and ensure that all training sessions are listed.  Processing invoices and ensuring that all trainers are registered tax payers with tax numbers also form part of my daily tasks.

Why did you choose the qualification you studied?

I am always up for a challenge, so I chose this qualification because it was more challenging and attractive to me. I have also always been passionate about working with numbers and solving problems related to finance, and finding different ways and strategies to make an idea a reality.

Is your qualification relevant to your job?  If so, did your studies adequately prepare you for your job?

Yes, this qualification is relevant to my job I also have to deal with a lot of finance related issues as well as the financials of the business. I am not only managing the running of the programme but also the financials of the company. My studies definitely adequately prepared me for my job because I am now using my theoretical knowledge in a practical working environment.

What is your greatest career achievement to date?

At the moment, that would be obtaining this position.

What are your future career plans?

I have many plans for the future but I am also currently furthering my studies as I am working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. Later I would like to start my own business.

How has the Career Centre assisted you while you were at The IIE’s Varsity College and/or as a graduate?

The Career Centre helped me a lot. My Career Centre Coordinator assisted me with creating my CV, preparing for interviews and applying for jobs. She was very supportive and helpful at all times.

What was the one thing that stood out for you about The IIE’s Varsity College?

Everyone was willing to help when there was a problem. We were not only students to them; they cared about how we were doing. The lecturers were also very helpful and hands on. The environment was just amazing and the support system was great.

What advice would you give to students who are looking for or about to embark on their first job?

It is not easy looking for a job and getting rejection emails from companies. There will be times where you will feel like giving up. My advice is to never give up, look for different ways to approach companies and stay calm because you will find a job. Be patient and continue applying for as many jobs as possible until someone recognises you and gives you that opportunity to put your theoretical knowledge into action. Lastly, join the VC Alumni Community and make use of the Career Centre as they are very helpful and care about what you become after graduating.
