Description of your duties on a daily basis

My main function is to acquire potential policy holder information for the company.

Why did you choose the qualification you studied?

This degree complemented my interest in the Business and Financial industry and enabled me to improve my knowledge.

Is your qualification relevant to your job?

I am currently working at an insurance company so in the bigger picture, yes, my degree is relevant for the industry. The company also allows for excellent growth opportunities and I intend becoming an asset within the financial department in future.

What is your greatest achievement to date career wise?

I was given the opportunity to start working a few days after my last exam and I was permanently employed within 3 months after starting at the company.

What are your future career plans?

I plan on furthering my studies by writing my CFA board exams and growing within the Financial industry.

What was the one thing that stood out the most for you about The IIE’s Varsity College?

It is the passion that the lecturers have for their respective subjects. The lecturers have real life experience within their specific fields and we were able to have discussions with them regarding situations that occur within the corporate world and not only focus on the theoretical side of the specific subject.

What advice would you give to students who are looking for or about to embark on their first job?

My advice would be to network - join groups on campus that give you the opportunity to network with the corporate world. Introduce yourself and send your CV to those people and don’t be afraid of rejection. Many graduates are too afraid to put themselves out there. “Never give up on your dreams!”
