The IIE’s Varsity College Westville
GRADUATED CLASS OF 2015
Company: Mr Price Group Ltd
Description of your duties on a daily basis
Training on systems and merchandising, allocations, stock management, seeking missed opportunities from current trade and planning the growth for all stores for my brand (Ladies RT Casual).
Why did you choose the qualification you studied?
I have always been good with numbers and preferred finance to accounting. I also felt that I would be more employable with this qualification.
What is your greatest achievement to date career wise?
While I was studying towards my degree, I was not sure what the exact role was that I would find fulfilling. Things became clearer after I was exposed to my current career path. So I would say my greatest achievement is finding the career that I am passionate about and having the opportunity to start my journey at MRP.
What are your future career plans?
My current career goal is to become a Planner for my own brand.
How has the Career Centre assisted you while you were at Varsity College and or as a graduate?
The Career Centre Coordinator helped me since first year by preparing me for my first interview which is how I secured my first part time job. I also would not have had my current job if they didn’t attend the Career Evening, where I was first introduced to Merchandise Planning by MRP. The Career Centre helped me prepare for my interview for my current position.
What was the one thing that stood out the most for you about Varsity College?
The one thing that stood out to me the most was the staff. They were always willing to help, always friendly and had so much passion.
What advice could you give to other students who are looking for or about to embark on their first job?
Find a career that allows you to be yourself and that is aligned with your culture. In doing so, you’ll never feel like you’re going to work (you’ll never dread it).
